Classic Musical Pastries - Sandy Denny & Alela Diane - Song For Sandy & various Sandy songs

A former impossibility, Alela has scaled new heights with my new favourite Alela tune. Love the pertinent lyrics. The fact that this is a tribute to my all time favorite singer Sandy Denny who created several masterpieces both as a solo artist and before that as a member of the seminal British folk band Fairport Convention. Check out on Youtube her Fairport Convention classics "Who Knows Where The Time Goes", "Crazy Man Michael", "Fotheringay", "The Deserter", and my all-time Fairport fave "Genesis Hall" and solo classics such as "John The Gun","Next Time Around", "Solo", & my fave solo tune "Late November" Song #4 of the Alela Quartet. Soak it in JJ.

My shadow follows me Wherever I should chance to go John The Gun did say ''If you should chance to meet me As I wander to and fro Sad would be your day" My life is mine and the light did shine Till the guns they did go through me So now I shall never fall Ideals of peace are gold Which fools have found Upon the plains of war I shall destroy them all Put away your guns of steel Death comes too soon for all Your Master He may need you soon And you must heed His call I am the master of the games That you will hardly ever play So I will teach your sons And if they should die Before the evening of their span of days Why, then they will die young Put away your guns of steel Death comes too soon for all Your Master He may need you soon And you must heed His call I am the master of the games That you will hardly ever play So I will teach your sons And if they should die Before the evening of their span of days Why, then they will die young Condemn me not For always will I play the game of war In moonshine or in sun And if any cross the path I choose to tread Their chances they are poor My name is John The Gun Put away your guns of steel Death comes too soon for all Your Master He may need you soon And you must heed His call I am the master of the games That you will hardly ever play So I will teach your sons And if they should die Before the evening of their span of days Why, then they will die young

Classic Music Pastries - Fairport Convention with Sandy Denny - Genesis Hall

Even though this tune was written by Sandy Denny's bandmate & future superstar Richard Thompson, there could not be a better showcase of Sandy's vocal prowess. Of course, Richard is no slouch in the guitar playing department - never overplaying, just the right notes at the right time. The history of this tune bears repeating. Prior to writing this song, there was an incident at the site of the former Bells Hotel on Drury Lane, Covent Garden, London. Evidently, having been abandoned and made derelict, the site soon attracted a coterie of homeless squatters who affectionately referred to their new lodgings as "Genesis Hall". The authorities had warned the squatters to vacate. After refusing on several occasions the police led by Richard Thompson's Captain father entered Genesis Hall & physically removed all the squatters. Richard was inspired to write the tune to demonstrate the contrasting viewpoints especially those of the squatters much to the indignation of his father. See if you do not appreciate the song more once knowing its inspiration. Sandy's singing brings forth the perfect degree of pathos required. FYI, the elderly couple (in the photo that served as their British album cover) are Sandy's parents.

"My father he rides with your sheriffs
And I know he would never mean harm
But to see both sides of a quarrel
Is to judge without hate or alarm

Oh, oh, helpless and slow
And you don't have anywhere to go

You take away homes from the homeless
And leave them to die in the cold
The gypsy who begged for your presents
He will laugh in your face when you're old

Oh, oh, helpless and slow
And you don't have anywhere to go

Well, one man he drinks up his whiskey
Another he drinks up his wine
And they'll drink till their eyes are red with hate
For those of a different kind

Oh, oh, helpless and slow
And you don't have anywhere to go

When the rivers run thicker than trouble
I'll be there at your side in the flood
It was all I could do to keep myself
From taking revenge of blood

Oh, oh, helpless and slow
And you don't have anywhere to go
Oh, oh, helpless and slow
And you don't have anywhere to go"

Classic Music Pastries - Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) & Clann Edair - Tribute For Sandy

Here is a touching tribute song to the late Sandy Denny. Particularly poignant in knowing that the Irish singer Phil Lynott also died way too soon. Hope you are moved by it.

Classic Music Pastries - Ronald Koal and the Trillionaires - Destination Zero

Of all the multitude of Bowie soundalikes, I must say that this is one of the best. Of course, the music is harsher and edgier. Dare I say punkier? Nevertheless, I am quite glad to have discovered this tune.https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=3814102999238437528#editor/target=post;postID=377522586905788836;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=1;src=link I do love many Bowie wannabes. How did this tune hide under my radar? Well, now I have heard it, and, no doubt, my life is richer for having done so. A loud shout out to Andy for sending me this song's way. (Thank You, Andy). To think that merely an hour ago, I had not heard either of this band or of this song.I will be posting more tunes in a similar vein.
